THE HOMEWARE EDIT

For most of us, the majority of this year has been spent from the comfort of our own homes. They have become not only the new workplace, but also our sanctuaries from the outside world. It is therefore no surprise that there has been a large upsurge in people searching online for lovely home improvements. Now is the best time to update your interior and create your dream space. From colourful cushions to cutting-edge coffee table books, here is a round up of some of our favourite independent homeware brands to inspire your next redecoration.

FURNITURE

With design studios in London and Warwick, British Design Shop offers a fully bespoke upholstery and crafted furniture service. Their pieces are shaped by the here and now and bring a distinctive style to everyday living. They are built to last with a respect for time honoured methods and carefully chosen, quality materials. Our favourite is the Amy which we had in our Kings Road Bazaar. She is pure luxury and elegance. Don’t start me on their brand new Edith, a contemporary interpretation of the classic chesterfield shape, characterised by soft voluminous forms and truly scrumptious in luxurious velvet.

We originally met whilst shooting her for our Baby You Can Drive My Car campaign and immediately fell in love when her pieces. She works primarily with oil pastels and is guided by colour and abstract form. We love these Alexander Calder-esque sculptures she is currently making. Also keep the sunshine shining with the Tray of Sunshine we have available in the Bazaar.

COFFEE TABLE BOOKS

Capri Dolce Vita

Capri, a resort island dating back to the height of the Roman Empire, has long been an extraordinary destination full of ancient charm. It boasts a rich Mediterranean spirit and style that encompasses a wealth of beauty, from gardens to villas to caves to the people walking in the lively Piazzetta. Capri Dolce Vita is a look at this fabled corner of the world through the ages and a celebration of paradise on earth.

On Dogs

Notting Hill Editions is an independent British publisher founded by Tom Kremer. Hailed as 'the shape of things to come', the family-run press brings to print the most surprising thinkers of past and present. In an era of information-overload, these collectible pocket-sized books distil ideas that linger in the mind. ‘On Dogs’ is a little anthology that explores the special relationship between humankind and our favourite four-legged creatures, with contributors including Miranda Hart and Virginia Woolf. We have a selection of some of our favourite reads and notebooks available in the Bazaar.

The New Black Vanguard

In this book, curator and critic Antwaun Sargent addresses a radical transformation taking place in fashion and art today. The featuring of the Black figure and Black runway and cover models in the media and art has been one marker of increasingly inclusive fashion and art communities. More critically, however, the contemporary visual vocabulary around beauty and the body has been re-infused with new vitality and substance thanks to an increase in powerful images authored by an international community of Black photographers.

We hope this has given you some fun ideas to keep smiling during the lockdown and early-to-bed curfew and whilst many are working from home. We always love to hear from you so please do drop us a message with anything that is keeping your spirits lifted.

Keep safe. With love Ellie x
