THE CHANGING FACE OF FASHION RETAIL

The world as we know it, is changing. As stores around the country begin to re-open, they are having to adapt to a new way of working in order to best serve their staff and customers. This state of flux arguably provides us the opportunity to consider how we can start to build a more sustainable future for fashion retail.

The industry has, for many years, been facing challenging times. The fashion calendar no longer works as it is; seasons merge into one as retailers try to meet demands for a constant stream of new stock. Fashion Houses are putting on increasingly expensive shows to attract consumers only for their designs to be copied and sold in high street stores before they have the chance to release them.

This increase in fast fashion is causing damage to our wonderful plant. We need to be more conscious about the way we shop and now is perhaps the perfect time to change our ways. Buying beautifully crafted pieces that we truly love is a great way to ensure they will last. These are items of clothing that we want to wear, use, and adore again and again. Supporting small, local designers also helps to reduce carbon footprints.

Here at Ellie Lines, we have for a long time been making pieces to order and using off-cuts to make limited editions. This results in less waste polluting out planet. We also continue to make all our pieces exclusively in England. With the Bazaar, we are slowly and organically adding British brands and pieces we truly love and hope that you will too.

Now is the time to support one another and nurture the wonderful artisan talents we have. One thing that we have learnt over the last few months is to pause, slow down, and to take a breath. Shop small. Shop local. You neighbourhood high street needs your love.

Stay safe and keep smiling xx
